Glitter on the dance floor: Disco portraits in Adelaide

Did you say disco portrait photography?

What is it that makes you feel most yourself? For this shoot it was inspired memories of dancing around the kitchen to disco beats. Sometimes the best way to tailor your photography shoot is to find your happy moments.  Exploring memories through boudoir and portraiture photography is a fun way to create personalised photos. A previous shoot took a similar idea featuring special clothing and was a visual journey of various dresses worn during important life moments.

Photos that are authentic to you

Most collaborations with clients have a few rough ideas to start with and then evolve. With the goal being, the creation of photos that truly resonate with you. Photos that are authentic to you, will not only last a lifetime but also support you to feel most comfortable in your own skin. I love helping clients to find their own unique beauty and work to break and evolve stereotypes around beauty.

Disco beats and fire blankets

For this shoot I got to unearth my disco ball, disco lights and a variety of shiny glittery things! The only thing that was missing was a backdrop that screamed disco. Searching my memory, a few things came to mind. I legged it to the first kit and grabbed out the feather light silver first aid blanket. It worked perfectly during the shoot, reflecting the tones off the floor through its criss cross folded lattices. Plus, it worked perfectly as a reflector, creating water like patterns on the wall. As a side note, the light from the disco ball was AMAZING!

Badass disco portraits

I love hearing clients react to their final photos, and this shoot was no exception: “I look like a badass disco b%^$ and I love it!”.

Experiments, movement and portraits

Usually shoots start with some rough ideas and then grow organically – that’s what I love most about collaborations. We also decided to capture some movement and double exposures and had a blast creating some unique art photography!
