The best thing about fine art photoshoots is that you get to explore what feels right for you. Maybe it’s soft, delicate boudoir that lets you sink into quiet, intimate moments - or maybe it’s bold, sword-wielding portraits that make you feel unstoppable. Often, it’s a little bit of both! Every shoot is a chance to play, experiment, and discover new sides of yourself - with a few laughs (and maybe a few swords) along the way.
When it comes to your photoshoot, there are no rules – just what you most want to explore. This session began with a conversation about what my client wanted to create. Two moods stood out: strong and powerful, and soft and ethereal. When I learned they loved cosplay and had a few swords, I knew immediately they’d make the perfect props.
We used a Pinterest board to gather ideas and get a clear picture of the vision. I love using Pinterest boards to lay down the broad strokes for a shoot – they’re a fantastic launchpad. If you haven’t checked out my Pinterest yet, you can find me here.
The next part of the shoot was all about playing with the swords they had brought – and oh my gosh, it was an absolute blast! We experimented with a wide variety of poses, each one exploring strength, power, and movement. Dramatic lighting added intensity and contrast, highlighting the sharp lines of the swords against the softness of the body and lace.
We even had the chance to wrap up the shoot with some motion blur shots, adding a sense of movement and energy that really brought the images to life. We also featured another favourite outfit, which added a fresh layer of personality and style to the session. Photography is never one-size-fits-all – and it shouldn’t be! Every shoot is about collaboration, experimentation, and discovering what resonates most with you. My goal is always to capture those moments authentically, so the final images truly reflect your personality and vision. So, what would your fine art photoshoot look like?
